Prelude on ‘Slane’

The hymn tune Slane is also known as Be Thou My Vision. It’s attributed to 8th Century Irish musicians and is based on Irish folksongs.

This arrangement is for full brass band and percussion and has been written to showcase every section of the band in one capacity of another. Beginning with a simple idea from the principal cornet, after a flourish we hear the first instance of the theme from the trombone, baritone and flugel. We meander through a variety of keys and tonalities before a large climax at the end with a full rendition of the theme in its entirety. We end as subtly as we start.

Difficulty is estimated to be B Grade or 2nd Section.
