Written for the 2017 Composition Contest hosted by the South Brisbane Federal Brass Band.
‘A Brisbane Journey’ is a captivating set of 5 movements. The music, though not programmatic, vividly captures the beauty and wonder of Brisbane, painting a musical portrait of the city without adhering to a specific storyline.
- Daybreak at Kangaroo Point: Overlooking the city, Kangaroo Point offers pristine panoramic views of Brisbane, making it an iconic vantage point.
- Treetop Walkway: Located a bit further south in the Gold Coast Hinterlands, the Treetop Walkway allows visitors to marvel at the picturesque vista of the treetop canopy and hinterlands.
- Southbank Promenade: Stroll along the manmade beach or wander under the vibrant pink-flowered archways that line the pavements of Southbank, adding to the area’s charm.
- Summer Storms: Experience the dramatic weather shifts in Brisbane, where heavy summer storms can arrive unexpectedly, showcasing the city’s dynamic climate.
- View from the Wheel: Positioned outside the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Brisbane Wheel may not be the tallest or fastest, but it offers a spectacular view of the city and is a must-visit for tourists.
‘A Brisbane Journey’ won the People’s Choice Award at the 2017 Composition Contest hosted by the South Brisbane Federal Brass Band.
Selected as the B Grade test piece for the 2019 Tasmanian Bands League Contest, ‘A Brisbane Journey’ is also set as the B Grade test piece for the 2024 Queensland Brass Band State Competition in Maryborough.
